Mathematics at Biyala Primary School focuses on developing confident, capable and flexible mathematical thinkers. Aligned with Victorian Curriculum 2.0, our program emphasises strong number understanding alongside problem-solving, reasoning and mathematical communication.

Teaching follows the VTLM 2.0 model, with explicit instruction, worked examples, guided practice and ongoing feedback embedded within predictable lesson structures. Consistent approaches across the school support clarity for students and ensure equitable access to high-quality mathematics learning. Students are encouraged to explain their thinking, apply strategies and build resilience when tackling mathematical challenges.
